In Elden Ring, reaching the prestigious Altus Plateau early in your journey often requires activating the Grand Lift of Dectus. To operate this massive mechanical elevator, players must track down two halves of a split medallion scattered across different corners of the Lands Between. Securing both pieces allows you to bypass a treacherous and hidden alternative route guarded by a fierce boss.

Finding the Dectus Medallion Left Half

The left half of the medallion is hidden away in the relatively low-level region of East Limgrave. To find it, you need to navigate through the dense woods of Mistwood and head toward the southeastern coast where Fort Haight stands. The fort is occupied by a handful of enemies, but seasoned adventurers can easily sprint past them to save time.

Once you enter the fortress, locate the tallest tower situated on the right side of the battlements. Climb the wooden ladder inside this tower to reach the very top platform. A treasure chest awaits you at the summit, containing the first crucial piece needed for the grand lift.

Locating the Dectus Medallion Right Half

The right half of the medallion requires a much more dangerous trek into the blighted wilds of Caelid. Specifically, you must travel far to the east into the isolated Dragonbarrow sub-region. Here, you will find Fort Faroth resting directly behind an enormous, ancient white dragon that sits motionless on the landscape.

Inside Fort Faroth, the environment is incredibly hostile and filled with aggressive, bat-like harpies that deal heavy poison damage. The safest strategy for lower-level players is to sprint directly through the main room toward the far left corner. Climb the ladder immediately to find the treasure chest holding the right medallion half safely away from the creatures below.

Activating the Grand Lift of Dectus

With both halves safely secured in your inventory, you are ready to make the journey to the northernmost tip of Liurnia of the Lakes. Follow the main Bellum Highway north until the road terminates at a massive, cathedral-like structure carved into the cliff face. This impressive monument is the Grand Lift of Dectus itself.

Step onto the platform in front of the two giant statues and wait for an interaction prompt to appear on your screen. Selecting the option to hoist the medallion will trigger a cinematic cutscene showing your character combining the pieces. The lift will then activate, seamlessly transporting you up to the Altus Plateau to continue your grand adventure.
